Soon after the Tech Demo was launched, what is regarded as "General Inactivity" (as dubbed by the 5-year anniversary poster) caused development to grind to an almost complete halt before development picking back up again halfway through 2016, serving as the foundations for the Steam Demo's release. This was one of the first times the public could at least play Prehistoric Kingdom, although it was very limited and lackluster due to how much was developed so far in the short amount of time given. This would result in a large amount of cut animals that would be looked back upon.Īs time progressed, Prehistoric Kingdom refined much of its initial concept while trimming off any of the extra fat, which led into the summer of 2015 when the first Tech Demo was released publicly. However, due to an overabundance of ambition compared to the small scope of the team, much of what had been worked on was cut in the name of time and resources, as the team had clearly bit off much more than they could chew. Much of what was made had a highly stylized artstyle, though the roots of the goals of the game tie back to this time era, with one of the main goals being to have a park-builder where most of the animals were simultaneously paleontologically accurate yet also mildly stylized, deviating from accuracy with the goal to please both the public eye and people who aim to see paleontologically accurate creatures in a park simulation game. A supposed amount of "100+ animals" were thought of and planned. Both teams would remain seperated due to unrelated matters to the game and differences in vision.Īlmost immediately upon creation, ambitious concepts and ideas were thrown around involving what would appear ingame for both the creatures and gameplay mechanics. And one group would create the name " Prehistoric Kingdom" in replacement of Jurassic Genetics and continue on with the name. The remaining team members previously mentioned would split, one group would continue on with some remnance of the original concept with the name of " Mesozoica" and would continue on for an amount of time until its later demise. The name would later be dropped due to a "cease and desist" order because of Jurassic Park copyright. It originally went under the name of Jurassic Genetics, a different game in what was in mind for the future and developers, heavily inspired by Jurassic Park as a whole for its concept. Scotty's remarks during our time with TOCA Race Driver 3 also gave us a pretty good idea of how our occasionally aggressive overtaking maneuvers would be received in the current championship. Before climbing into a supertruck for the first time, for example, Scotty pointed out to us that drafting other racers is often a useful tactic in those particular events. Unsurprisingly, all of the championships that we chose to drive in had a very different feel, both in terms of our vehicles' handling and the tactics required to succeed. ![]() TOCA Race Driver 3's 35 different racing disciplines include something for everyone. Every time we completed a championship, its content was unlocked for use in the game's free race, time trial, and multiplayer modes, which should give the World Tour mode a decent amount of replay value given that you'll be competing in only a fraction of the available events on your first play-through. En route to the fourth tier, incidentally, our championship options included 4WD track challenges, an MG Team rally competition, off-road buggy nationals, Formula 1000, and the US Muscle Car Tour. By the time we'd progressed to the fourth tier, though, we were taking the controls of supertrucks, Baja motocross buggies, and high-end Japanese sports cars, which were noticeably more challenging to drive. The two championships available to us on the first tier, for example, were the Autosport Clio Cup and the Global GT Lights competition, both of which feature vehicles with quite forgiving handling characteristics. The World Tour mode is divided up into tiers, each containing a number of different championships for you to choose from and getting more difficult as you progress through the game. The cutscenes in TOCA Race Driver 3 are all viewed from the first-person perspective of your driver, and although we've only seen a handful of them to date, we can report that they're noticeably superior to those in previous games-which is no small accomplishment. Scotty is also the star of the majority of the rendered cutscenes that you'll be treated to between races. ![]() This not only gives you a chance to familiarize yourself with the controls before your career proper gets underway, but also to get acquainted with your mechanic, Scotty, who'll give you advice (among other things) over the radio whenever you're behind the wheel. Like the career mode in the Codemasters' previous Race Driver game, TOCA Race Driver 3's World Tour mode throws you in at the deep end by tasking you with completing the latter stages of a fiercely competitive race already in progress. Your mechanic is looking better than ever in TOCA Race Driver 3. The experienced racers among you, on the other hand, might choose to switch all of those on and then tweak your controls by assigning a number between 1 and 100 for the saturation and deadzone settings of your steering, accelerator, brake, and clutch. Novice players, for example, will want to switch off the "pro-simulation" settings for gravel traps, vehicle handling, and realistic damage. The Pro Career mode will task you with working your way up through the ranks of a single racing discipline, while the World Tour mode-which is what we played on this occasion-is a story-driven affair that affords you access to many different types of racing every time you progress to a new championship.īefore starting our World Tour career, we checked out some of TOCA Race Driver 3's gameplay options, which are clearly being designed to cater to players of all abilities. When Dotson was twenty-one, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. By mid-1995, he formed the punk-pop band Size 14 (named after his shoe size). This band released an well-received album on Volcano Records in 1997. When the band broke up in 1998, Dotson began his solo career. He released his first solo album, “Your Favorite Record”, in August 1999. The album was recorded in Dotson’s bedroom recording studio and was held in high regard by most critics. His second album, “Let Yourself Be Happy” (2001), was generally not received as favorably as his first album, but received mostly favorable reviews. Dotson turned to production, producing such artists as Paul Gilbert, Bowling for Soup and Charlatans U.K. In October 2006, he released his third album, “Triangle”. He followed it up with two compilation albums: “Attractive Singles” (2008), which combined previously released tracks with some new ones and “Reheat and Serve” (2008), which contains twelve previously unreleased tracks. His next release was “A Girl That I Like”, a digital single released in March 2011. “A Girl That I Like” delivers what we have come to expect from Dotson: a delicately beautiful melody, accompanied by guileless lyrics: “There’s a girl that I like/ And she’s coming by at 12/Until then I’ll be countin’ down the time/And we’ve kissed a few times/I’m not sure what it means/But ever since, she’s always on my mind”. ![]() Dotson claims he wrote the song for a girlfriend, who once texted him, asking, “What are you doing?” He replied “I’m texting with a girl that I like”, and proceeded to use that as the title for a song, which he wrote in about fifteen minutes. Pika collect this vegetation in “haystacks,” which they build in their burrows to store food for winter. Pika are herbivores, and their diet consists mostly of grasses, sedges, and other plant material. By taking these steps, we can help ensure that pika will be able to thrive in their natural habitat for years to come.
